The NHS is expected to achieve and maintain high standards of probity in the way it conducts its business. These standards include impartiality, objectivity and integrity, and the effective stewardship of public funds.
NHS Surrey and Sussex is committed to openness and transparency in its work and decision-making. The effective management of conflicts of interests is an essential element in any working group for NHS Surrey and Sussex. Without it, professionals and the public will lose confidence in our work.
Board Member Register of Interests
NHS Surrey and Sussex keeps a register of interests for the members of the Integrated Care Board to identify and manage any conflicts of interest that may arise in the course of decision making when undertaking its business. These registers are reviewed regularly and updated as necessary.

Staff declarations
All NHS Surrey and Sussex employees are required to declare any relevant and material personal or business interests and any relevant and material personal or business interest of their spouse; civil partner; co-habitee, family member or close friend which may influence or may be perceived to influence their judgement.
A transition programme is underway to combine declarations of interest systems for the new organisation, however Members of the public can view our registers of staff declarations of interest, in accordance with NHS England guidance on transparency and accountability via the links to legacy organisation systems below.
Conflict of Interest policy
The NHS Surrey and Sussex Conflicts of Interest policy ensures that NHS Surrey Sussex meets the revised NHS England Managing Conflicts of Interest in the NHS Statutory Guidance published in September 2024.
This policy applies to all NHS Surrey and Sussex employees, Board members and members of committees and forms part of the NHS Surrey and Sussex constitution.
Hospitality and commercial sponsorship
In line with the Standards of Business Conduct policy , NHS Sussex also maintains a register of gifts, hospitality and commercial sponsorship. This complements the Conflicts of Interest policy .
Declarations of interest can be filtered by declaration type on the public register.

Further information and advice is available through the NHS Surrey and Sussex Conflicts of Interest Guardian who:
- Acts as a conduit for members of the public and healthcare professionals who have any concerns in regard to conflicts of interest.
- Is a safe point of contact for employees or workers of NHS Sussex to raise any concerns in relation to this policy.
- Supports the rigorous application of conflict of interest principles and policies.
- Provides independent advice and judgment where there is any doubt about how to apply conflicts of interest policies and principles in an individual situation.
- Provides advice on minimising the risks of conflicts of interest.
