A guide to the Spring COVID-19 vaccination campaign
People aged 75 years and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed (as defined in the ‘immunosuppression’ sections of tables 3 or 4 in the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book) will be offered a dose of COVID-19 vaccine this Spring.
The NHS will invite you to come forward but you do not need to wait for this, if you are eligible book as soon as possible. The National Booking System opened on 7 April 2026 to book appointments from 13 April 2026.
If you or someone you know can’t get online, book by calling 119 free of charge, where a translator is available if needed. Last appointments will be on 30 June 2026, with the last day to book on 29 June 2026.
In addition to booked appointments, there are thousands of walk-in appointments available daily, with a full list of local locations on the NHS vaccination walk-in finder website.
COVID-19 Spring vaccination update for housebound patients
This year, changes to how the seasonal Covid-19 vaccination services are commissioned has affected the number of providers available to offer the vaccination and therefore, how quickly they are able to be delivered.
Participation in this campaign by GP practices and community pharmacies is optional, and the contractual changes have resulted in fewer providers offering the service. As a result, delivery of the campaign is slower than previous ones, particularly for some patient groups, including those who are housebound.
NHS Surrey and Sussex recognise the importance of equitable access, and we understand this may cause concern. Please be assured that we are working closely with NHS England and providers of these services to offer the vaccine to everyone who is eligible as quickly as possible.
The Covid-19 vaccination provides additional protection over the summer months for the most vulnerable people, until the autumn campaign is offered. This seasonal offer is available for people who are aged 75 or over, those who have a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment and those who live in a care home for older adults.
We anticipate that all eligible individuals will have received their vaccination by 30 June 2026 at the latest. If you are waiting for an appointment, please be assured you will be contacted in due course to arrange an appointment.
Everyone who is eligible for a vaccination will receive one. Further information about eligibility is available on the NHS Covid 19 Vaccine website.
FAQs for patients
When will I get my COVID-19 vaccination?
The Spring Covid-19 vaccination campaign is being delivered by fewer providers this year, therefore, people will experience a different pace in being offered the vaccine, and securing an appointment, if you are eligible. This will particularly impact on people who are housebound. This has resulted from changes in the way the vaccination campaign is commissioned and contracted nationally.
Providers are in the process of arranging appointments and if you are registered as a housebound patient with your GP practice, you will be contacted directly. We anticipate this will be before the end of May 2026.
If you are waiting for an appointment, please be assured you will be contacted in due course to arrange an appointment.
Will I still be able to get my COVID-19 Spring Booster vaccination?
Yes. Everyone who is eligible for a vaccination will receive one.
